Hightech meets Lowtech: EinDollarBrille at Deutsches Museum Munich
From April 4 to 8, 2026, EinDollarBrille will be part of the Science Communication Lab at the Deutsches Museum in Munich – bringing our work to life in a hands-on and interactive way.
Under the motto “Hightech meets Lowtech”, we are bringing the core of our mission from the program countries right into the museum. Across three stations, visitors can experience firsthand how optical care is made accessible even without high-end infrastructure and why simplicity can be the key to enormous impact.
What awaits you?
Station 1 – A look into practice What does an eye camp in Malawi, India, or Bolivia look like? We’ve recreated one! Experience how our trained GoodVision Technicians conduct eye tests and provide affordable glasses to people, often for the very first time in their lives.
Station 2 – Learn and be amazed At our information booth, discover the story behind EinDollarBrille: how a simple idea turned into a social innovation now changing lives in eleven countries. In a live demonstration, our team shows how, using our bending machine (completely without electricity) robust, functional glasses are made from spring steel wire and simple pliers. The material cost: about one U.S. dollar
Station 3 – Get hands-on Grab the pliers! In our daily interactive activity, you can bend your own mini glasses and take them home as a keepsake. Perfect for curious minds, big and small.
Why it’s worth a visit
The Deutsches Museum is a place where science, technology, and innovation come alive, the perfect setting to show that sometimes the simplest ideas have the greatest impact. And each of us can be part of this movement.
