Liberia

The first program of GoodVision USA, the American sister organization of the association EinDollarBrille, is starting in Liberia, the fourth poorest country in the world.  The need for basic eye care is great here: around 5 million people live in Liberia and are served by fewer than 200 ophthalmologists. There is hardly any access to glasses in rural regions.

GoodVision USA is addressing this supply gap by training ophthalmic staff, the GoodVision Technicians (GVTs).

In February 2022, 11 men and women completed their training and have since joined the Liberian team in Monrovia.

Strong team celebrates successes

By the end of 2022, the GoodVision (Liberia) team will have carried out over 8,000 eye tests nationwide and provided more than 2,000 people with glasses. This is only possible with strong partners such as the L'Occitane Foundation, which supports GoodVision USA with generous donations. The GoodVision Germany team has also provided valuable support from the outset, assisting colleagues in Liberia and the USA in the areas of organizational development, technology, IT, marketing and fundraising.

Since then, the GoodVision Technicians have been offering reliable basic eye care in the clinic in Monrovia and also outside Monrovia via eye camps.
