More safety at work in Kolkata
In 2022, our work took us to West Bengal for the first time: The region around Kolkata is home to many thousands of day laborers who earn their income with hard work in the countless factories and industrial plants. An eye camp in a steelworks lasted several weeks. With the help of an autorefractometer from Adaptica, the GoodVision Technicians (GVTs) can test around 120 to 150 people per day, as good eyesight is vital for survival, especially in the hot coal furnaces.
The workers gratefully accept our help: Thanks to the on-site eye tests and subsequent glasses fitting, they don't have to miss out on their wages that day.
By the end of 2022, we will have helped over 3,000 people in industrial companies in West Bengal.
Around 40 percent of factory workers usually also need glasses.
